    Davina & The Vagabonds

6:30 - $10.00 Davina Sowers hit the Midwest scene in February, 2005 and she hasn't looked back since. It didn't take her long to start making a name for herself. With great vocals and classically trained on the piano, she commands attention on stage and leaves everyone smiling. Davina has been performing since the age of 5, with the support of an extremely musical family. She has been called the "hardest working blues woman in Minnesota." Two things remain consistent in all her shows: her throaty, but cushiony voice, which has the comfort of Bonnie Raitt, part Etta James and a little Amy Whitehouse, and her band's New Orleans flavor, driven home by dueling horn player and bayou thick standup bass. During this show we will be taking up a collection to help a local family as they deal with two tragedies in their life. Brenda and Sean Kelsey were expecting this time of year to be full of joy as they were awaiting the addition of a new baby girl but, soon after delivery, complications began and baby Rebecca only survived for 6 days. As if that wasn’t enough Brenda suffered a stroke soon after the delivery and spent nearly 2 weeks in ICU. Currently Sean, Brenda and their son Oliver are in Nebraska going through some initial rehab and they hope to be back to Topeka in November. The collection will go to help pay bills and retrofit their home to facilitate Brenda’s return. So come out and enjoy some blues while giving back to a local family in need.
