The Aces feature some of the finest musicians to ever come out of KC. Jay, or Jim as many Topekans know him from his first 30 years of life here, is the lead vocalist. Jay previously sang with the Hipnotics, a band that won the KC Blues Challenge and opened for such acts as B.B. King, John Mayall and Los Lobos. On lead guitar and vocals is Terry Swope from the JPT Scare Band (an acid blues band popular world-wide) and Boko Maru (a critically-acclaimed jazz rock band). On keys is Joe Miquelon, whose career includes stints with Bonnie Raitt, Albert King and Mike Finnigan, and who also played with such great local acts as Ida McBeth, Kevin Mahogany, Little Hatch and the Blue Riddim band. Oscar Polk is the saxophonist extraordinaire who played with the Bon Ton Soul Accordion Band, Kansas Music Hall of Fame inductees. Cliff Eveland from the Bon Ton, PowerGlide and Hothouse nails down bass guitar, while Scot Eldridge, who has played with nearly everyone in KC, provides the beat.
This is a band that packs the dance floors in KC nearly every weekend. They play good ole rock ‘n roll, blues and soul, but are fully capable of playing disco and even a little jazz rock if the crowd wants it. With tens of decades of stage time between them, they know how to keep folks on the dance floor while also wowing those who choose to simply tap their feet and watch.
