    Grady Champion

    Grady ChampionDoors open @ 5:30 p.m. & show begins at 6:30 p.m.

Mississippi-based blues musician Grady Champion has been captivating audiences for the better part of two decades. The singer/harp player/guitarist/songwriter has often been compared to other revolutionary artists such as Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf and Junior Wells. In 2013 Champion signed to Malaco Records (headquartered in nearby Jackson, MS) and his first full-length release with the legendary blues label was released the following year. Bootleg Whiskey, named for the George Jackson song that is one of the album's highlights, establishes Champion as a torch carrier for authentic Mississippi blues.

Grady Champion was born Oct. 10, 1969 and grew up on a farm in Canton, MS within a religious household. The youngest of his father's 28 children, he joined his church choir at the age of eight and realized his passion for music. When he was 15, he and his family moved to Miami, FL, but he only attended high school there for a year before moving back to Mississippi to graduate.

Grady returned to Florida and attempted small jobs such as boxing and working as a radio DJ. By the early 90's he embarked on a brief career as a rapper, performing under the moniker MC Gold. However, he soon discovered that he had a natural talent for the blues, and he incorporated hip-hop into blues music. In 1998, after learning to play the harmonica, Grady released his first album, the self-released Goin' Back Home.

Champion enjoyed performing at blues clubs all over Florida, and was quickly scooped up by Shanachie Records, with whom he released Payin' for My Sins (1999) and 2 Days Short of a Week (2001). Back in Mississippi: Live at the 930 Blues Cafe followed in 2008, released on Grady's own GSM Music Group imprint. In 2010 he won the International Blues Challenge, enabling him to expand his regular tour itinerary to include most of the U.S. and Canada. He has since played the Chicago Blues Festival three different times, the Legendary Blues Cruise and the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival.

In 2011, Champion's song "Make That Monkey Jump" won a Blues Critic Award in the Best Down Home Blues Song category. He then released Dreamin' (2012) and Tough Times Don't Last (2013) on his own Grady Shady Music imprint, the former of which was nominated for two 2012 Blues Music Awards: Best Soul Blues Album and Song of the Year for "Thank You for Giving Me the Blues."

"I play what I feel," says Grady Champion, whose socially conscious lyrics and inspiring live performances have earned him a 2014 cover story in Living Blues magazine. His appeal has crossed over between predominantly white fans of traditional blues and predominantly black soul-blues fans. "I think blues has a bright future . . . you just gotta be able to hang in the game." With an album on Malaco and a touring schedule of approximately 180 performances per year, that is just what Grady Champion is doing.

    Danielle Nicole Band

    Blues from Kansas City, MO.
    http://daniellenicolekc.com

    Doors open @ 6:30 p.m. and Show starts at 8:00 p.m.

Danielle Nicole Band 2014-DNB_PressPhoto1-hiresAs founding member and bass player of Kansas City blues-rock band Trampled Under Foot, Danielle Schnebelen has spent years growing her fan base around the world. In 2014 she decided to push her musical boundaries further by forming the Danielle Nicole Band, which also features Mike “Shinetop” Sedovic (keyboard), Jan Faircloth (drums) and Brandon Miller (guitar).

Born a natural performer, Danielle got her start singing in coffeehouses and at open mic events while growing up immersed in the local Kansas City blues scene. Her talent and on stage charisma played a major role in the success of Trampled Under Foot and helped the band earn numerous awards and nominations over the years, including multiple Blues Music Award nominations for “Band of the Year” and a two nominations recognizing her individual accomplishments as a musician for “Bass Player of the Year”. Drawing comparisons to Susan Tedeschi and Etta James, Danielle delivers a sweeping vocal range and powerful telling of her lyrics every time she hits the stage.

Mike “Shinetop, jr.” Sedovic started playing piano as soon as he could reach the keys. Showing a natural gift for music, he was discovered by The Blues Notions, one of Kansas City’s longest running blues bands. Mike spent the next eight years honing his skills alongside some of the best and most knowledgeable bluesmen on the scene before teaming up with Danielle as part of the Danielle Nicole Band.

Jan Faircloth was raised in a music-loving household. By the time he attended high school, Jan had played every possible musical style available to a sixteen year-old in western Kansas. After high school, Jan made his way to Kansas City in search of greener musical pastures. Jan spent eleven years with the popular blues rock outfit Levee Town, making five records and touring widely around the US and Canada.

Music has always been a part of Brandon Miller’s life. From an early age, his dad would let him explore his record collection of Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Aerosmith and other classic rock legends. Miller spent countless days and nights trying to recreate the sounds of his musical heroes. After sculpting his sound for years, he formed the Brandon Miller Band, a powerful, guitar-driven blues-rock trio. Having released two, full-length albums and sharing the stage with artists like Jonny Lang, Foghat, Night Ranger and Eddie Money; Brandon Miller brings a rock n roll edge to the Danielle Nicole Band.

    BelAirs

    Doors open @ 6:30 p.m. & Show starts @ 8:00 p.m.

The Bel AirsFronted by brothers Dick and Dave Pruitt on bass and electric guitars, with Michael Cherry on drums, the Bel Airs play a danceable mix with an authentic but eclectic bluesy-country-soul-and-rock-n-roll sound influenced by the likes of Wilson Picket, Slim Harpo, Howlin' Wolf and Johnny Cash.

The Pruitt brothers' harmony vocal style sets them apart in the contemporary music scene--leading one reviewer to refer to them as the "Everly Brothers of Blues". David's "big guitar" and Dick's howling vocals over soulful, right-on rhythm playing make this trio a powerhouse.

Formed in 1981, the original incarnation of the Bel Airs included the Pruitt brothers, harp player Michael Henderson and drummer Pat O'Connor. In those days, rumor has it that in addition to playing guitar behind his head, little David Pruitt occasionally rode on Henderson's shoulders at the end of an especially raucous set.

Back in the days of vinyl, the original four members of the band released the Bel Airs' first recording NEED ME A CAR on Blind Pig Records in 1984. Later, Henderson moved to Nashville and played with the Snakes and toured with Mark Knopfler.

In 1991, the Bel Airs released DANGEROUS CURVES, recorded at Lou Whitney's studio in Springfield, Missouri, as a trio. Later that year, when David moved temporarily to southern California, drummer Pat O'Connor left for Nashville as well, and in 1995, brothers Dick and David recruited Indianapolis native Michael Cherry, a veteran of the Paladins and the James Harman Band, to return to the midwest to take the helm of the rhythm section. The association has proven to be a fruitful one. The current line-up has been together over ten years, and has released two recordings. HOODOO PARTY (1999) was recorded in St. Louis and among the guest musicians featured is late-great pianist Johnnie Johnson, who emerged from Chuck Berry's shadow during the 1990's and often joined the Bel Airs on stage at St. Louis' legendary Off Broadway.

Their most recent recording effort is GOT LOVE on Hightone Records. Recorded at The Studio with Lou Whitney in Springfield, GOT LOVE features the intensity of the live shows that loyal fans know and love, with guests Jimmy Carpenter on horn and Joe Terry on hammond organ adding depth and polish in just the right places.

    Anthony Gomes

Anthony Gomes, #1 Billboard Blues Artist, is a triple threat force as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter.  Blues Revue Magazine recently declared that, “Gomes’ formidable guitar chops and authentic singing place him in the forefront of modern blues.”  This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today.  Gomes has headlined concerts in 17 countries and has had the honor of sharing the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa, Heart, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Word of Gomes’ electrifying performances has reached Eric Clapton, Morgan Freeman, John Goodman, Toby Keith, Jonny Lang, Ron White and Vince Vaughn who have all attended Gomes’ concerts.  After experiencing Gomes  live, John Goodman referred to him as “a pure soul brother” and comedian Ron White declared his official endorsement of Anthony Gomes.   Perhaps the greatest complement was offered by Morgan Freeman who jokingly professed that Anthony was, “not bad for a white boy.”

    Zac Harmon with Mike Babb

    Two Night Show!

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8:00

    Blues from Mississippi and Texas

Zac HarmonBorn and raised in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi, Zac Harmon is a true disciple of the music that emanated from the city’s historic Farish Street district, universally recognized as the home of such great blues legends like the late, great Elmore James.

While in high school and college, Harmon gigged as a guitarist for the likes of Z.Z. Hill, Dorothy Moore and Sam Myers. Relocating to L.A. in the early eighties, he worked as a studio musician and then established himself as a writer and producer, crafting songs for the likes of the O’Jays, Whispers, Karyn White, Alexander O'Neal and Black Uhuru.

Composing and performing music for a movie score, Harmon was compelled to pursue his longtime dream to return to his roots and record his first Blues project. The result was 2002’s Live at Babe & Ricky's Inn, an electrifying testimony to Mississippi Blues, which showcased the sound at its best and introduced Harmon as a true torchbearer for the “next generation of the Blues”. In 2004, with his then band, the Mid South Blues Revue, he won the Blues Foundation’s prestigious International Blues Challenge (IBC) title of “Best Unsigned Band".

That release was followed by The Blues According To Zacariah, which garnered major national airplay, including XM, Sirius and the American Blues Network. XM listeners voted Harmon “Best New Blues Artist” in the inaugural XM Nation Awards in 2005. In 2006, Harmon won the Blues Music Award for “Best New Artist Debut” for The Blues According to Zacariah. Later that year, he was featured in Blues Revue magazine, as one of the 10 artists that “…represent the future of the blues”.

2007 saw Harmon named to the Blues Foundation’s Board of Directors and entering into an endorsement deal with Category 5 Amplification. In 2008, he released Shot in the Kill Zone in Europe, recorded live at the Lionel Hampton Room in Paris. He then signed with the Northern Blues label for his third and much-anticipated U.S. album, From the Root that was released April 2009.

Harmon also marked his acting debut in ’09 with a major role in the independent feature film Black and Blue, which is to be released in 2010. Also, in 2009, he was honored for his career achievements in his beloved hometown at the Jackson Music Awards and weeks later in Nashville, the Jus’ Blues Music Foundation bestowed the “Little Milton” Guitar Award for “Outstanding Guitar Player” upon him.

Zac Harmon entertained U.S. troops in Iraq and Kuwait in 2008 as one the stars of Bluzapalooza and while headlining “The Pizza & Pyramid Tour” of Sicily, Italy and Cairo, Egypt in late 2009, Harmon and company made history with a rare performance at site of the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, making the ensemble only the second Blues act to do so; Louis Armstrong being the first.

More recently, Zac was featured performer for the 2010 “Mississippi Celebrates its GRAMMY® Legacy” celebration, hosted by Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, where he was presented with a Peavey Award by Peavey Electronics founder and CEO Hartley D. Peavey. The Peavey Award honors the state's many GRAMMY® winners and nominees as well as individuals who have played a significant role in developing and furthering Mississippi's musical heritage.

Zac Harmon continues to tour internationally as an ambassador for the Blues.

Chris Duarte 2014 press pic 5The Chris Duarte Group emerged on the scene out of Austin, Texas in the early 90’s and gained notoriety after wowing a packed room of industry insiders at the South X Southwest convention. In the wake of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s passing, Duarte quickly gained a National reputation as young man imbued with a playing style comparable at times to the late guitarist. After fielding interest from a number of labels, Duarte signed to Silvertone Records and his debut album “Texas Sugar/Strat Magik” reportedly sold in excess of 100,000 units in the United States, no small feat for a blues/rock guitarist. This coupled with Duarte’s strong commitment to touring, was the impetus for Chris’ winning the “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s 1995 Reader’s Poll. He also finished fourth in the magazine’s “Best Blues Guitarist” category that year behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King.

Coming through over three generations of guitarists and musicians, in many ways, he is just another vessel for the spirit of music. Growing up in the blues scene of Kansas City, Nick knows many of the KC greats, those alive and those who’ve passed.

After cutting his teeth on guitar with father Bob Schnebelen, Nick moved out East in search of a new experience. Nick says,”Someone once told me, if you want to be known, you gotta be from somewhere else”. That stuck with him and led him to Philadelphia where he lived for nearly nine years. Hitting blues jams that very same week he landed East, he was playing shows the following week. Half a year later, at nineteen, he was playing most of the Blues and Rock clubs in New York City Manhattan in the Village. Nick, and friends Chris Schutz and Jesse Harris, and Justin DiFebbo formed the popular Philadelphia based Killing Floor later known as K-Floor. K-Floor brought high energy blues to an area where there wasn’t so much blues. This group was very successful up and down the East Coast for six years and got to open up for countless acts such as Johnny Winter (several times), Robin Trower, Robert Cray, Derek Trucks, George Thorogood, Steve Miller and James Brown.

For a short time Nick was a member of Buddahead, a New York City based Pop band and traveled all over the US for two years. Opening for Everlast on a national tour and getting to record with Jon Popper from Blues Traveler was just a few of the experiences they had. He received an excellent write-up in the New York Post for a performance opening for Everlast at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City in 2003.

Nick won the Albert King Award for most promising guitarist at the 2008 International Blues Challenge.

Nick plays a handful of guitars and amps. Among his stable is a 1969 Gibson ES-335 featuring an American flag on the front with pearloid star inlays. A 1991 Gibson Les Paul Custom, a Gibson Custom Shop left-handed Albert King ES-335, an American Fender Telecaster, a Gibson Flying V and more. Nick loves playing his Category 5 amps. He plays a 2×12 Andrew and a 2×12 Camille.

    Samantha Fish

    Early Show!

    Blues Guitarist
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Samantha FishKansas City-based Samantha Fish has been on a major roll ever since she teamed up with Cassie Taylor and Dani Wilde on Ruf’s 2011 release, Girls with Guitars, and fueled by the trio’s Blues Caravan tour of Europe and the U.S., created an international buzz in the blues world. Later that same year she recorded Runaway, her solo debut on Ruf, which mixed gutsy riff-blues rockers like “Down In The Swamp” with the mellow small-hours jazz of “Feelin’ Alright,” while marinating her songwriting in the groove of the Rolling Stones and even tipping a hat to Heart. “It’s all the sounds I grew up with,” she explained at the time, “with my own spin.” Earlier this year Samantha joined labelmate Devon Allman for a sultry duet of the Tom Petty classic, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” that appeared on Devon’s Turquoise CD and accompanying video.

Hitting a receptive international blues and rock press, Runaway was hailed as a thrilling opening statement, earning a string of rave reviews and radio airplay, climaxed by her winning the Blues Music Award (BMA) for “Best New Artist Debut” in 2012. “I’m truly humbled by the recognition,” Samantha said afterward. “I can barely wait to make record number two…”

Now, the wait is over, as Samantha Fish unleashes a major storm of her trademark guitar work and soulful vocals on Black Wind Howlin’. “It has a rebellious streak,” says the bandleader of her game-changing new album, “and a prevalent theme is, ‘I’m not gonna take your sh*t anymore…’”
No “sophomore slump” here, as Black Wind Howlin’ leaps from the speakers with 12 smoking tracks that chart Samantha’s evolution as songwriter, gunslinger and lyricist. “Since completing Runaway back in 2011, I’ve been on tour pretty much non-stop,” she proclaims. “I’ve spent a lot of time writing, playing and listening to music. I feel like the themes and the sound of my music have matured. To me, it’s about the human experience from my perspective, as well as people I’ve come into contact with over the last few years.”

Rather than trying to duplicate what she accomplished on her first success, Samantha re-defines her sound throughout the tracks on Black Wind Howlin’. She can be brutally rocking on cuts like the tour bus snapshot of “Miles To Go” (“Twelve hours to Reno/ten hours til the next show”), the swaggering “Sucker Born” (“Vegas left me weary, LA bled me dry/skating on fumes as I crossed the Nevada line…”) and the venomous “Go To Hell” (“Oh, this ain’t my first rodeo/You hit yourself a dead end/Your voodoo eyes, ain’t gonna cast a spell/So you can go to hell!”). “I’ve become tougher,” she notes of these head-banging moments, “and I think that was reflected in the sound we went for.”

And yet, elsewhere, backed by the versatile production of longtime collaborator Mike Zito, you’ll find Samantha shifting gears to the aching slide-guitar balladry of “Over You” (“Echoing words, said I’d never make it on my own…”) and the redemptive country song, “Last September” (“Don’t remember the curves of my face/Can’t feel the warmth in my embrace/Well I’m here to remind you…”).

She might stop off for a gritty cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Who’s Been Talking,” and co-wrote “Go to Hell” with Zito, but all other tracks are Samantha’s self-penned originals, and it’s a mix that will keep listeners on their toes. “I wanted this record to have a modern rocking sound,” she explains of the album’s vibe. “I also wanted it to have elements of Americana, country and roots.”

For Samantha, the recording sessions proved just as rewarding as the writing “I had a dream team of musicians and special guests,” she recalls. “And Dockside Studios quickly became one of my favorite places on earth.”

It hasn’t been that long since a teenaged Samantha Fish first started showing up at her local Kansas City blues club, Knuckleheads Saloon, and began soaking up the sounds of visiting modern blues guitar masters like Mike Zito and Tab Benoit, then going back to ’80s heroes like Stevie Ray Vaughan and following the lineage to the pre-war Delta masters. “I fell in love with it,” she told Premier Guitar of her growing passion for the form, “and started doing my homework by listening to the old guys like Son House and Skip James.”

With those influences as her template, Samantha incorporated the sounds of the classic rock of The Rolling Stones and Tom Petty, alongside contemporary artists like Sheryl Crow and The Black Crowes, in putting together a sound that would become her own.

By the age of 18, Samantha had settled on a searing lead guitar style that expressed her own voice rather than mimicking clichéd blues licks note-for-note. She quickly broke into a dues-paying period on the Kansas City jam circuit: an apprenticeship at the sharp end that tightened her musical chops, polished her stagecraft and gave her the grit to overcome occasional skepticism about her age, hair tone and gender. “I always hated the idea of the gimmick,” she told Premier Guitar. “People come out just because you are a girl, but then you have so much more to prove once you get them in the door.” And Samantha has delivered on that promise, as evidenced by one listen to the new recording. “I really got to do exactly what I wanted to do on Black Wind Howlin’,” she says, “and I’m incredibly proud of it.”

    Wayne Sharp & The Sharpshooters

    Doors Open @ 6:30 & Show Starts @ 8:00

    Blues from Gulfport, MS

Wayne+Sharp+And+The+Sharpshooter+Band+IIWayne Sharp moved to the coast of Mississippi and started playing professionally at 17 years old. His first gig was playing from 9pm till 3am, 7 days a week for 13 months! He still craved the music that really moved him. He would go to the black clubs in town to jam and get side gigs behind anyone who was playing the sounds he loved. It was here that he met Jaimoe {Allman Bros.} and Lamar Williams {Allman Bros}. "I got into a circle of players who were backing everyone who was on the Chitlin Circuit at that time"... Wayne worked in Macon, GA alongside Jackie Avery and Anthony Dorsey. Avery has written for just about everyone....Chi-Lites, Otis Redding, Johnny Taylor...on and on..."I respect Jackie's artistic sensibilities to the utmost...that man, is, music!" Tony "Bone" Dorsey, is another genius at arrangement and production, hence, he's the only person to produce Paul McCartney other than Paul McCartney.

After a few years in Macon, Sharp headed out to Los Angeles to start his own band of music. He secured a production deal on the songs he wrote and approached friends, Jaimoe and Lamar, about joining him on the project. They had left the Allman Brothers and Sea Level to join forces with Wayne to form the SharpShooter Band. After landing a development deal with Capitol Records Inc., he had the opportunity to record live and make record demos with the likes of Andy Johns and Ed Cherney. The band put a tour together to road-test the material when Lamar became ill. He passed within the year. Jaimoe went back to the Allman Brothers and Wayne joined Elvin Bishop.

Within a year, Wayne got the call to join Michael Burks at Alligator Records, putting a promising solo career on hold and never looking back until Burks' untimely passing in 2012. He began with Michael Burks in 2000 and played over 2500 shows with him from Mississippi to Minsk. During Wayne's career with Michael Burks, they received 14 Blues Music Awards nominations on a total of 4 CDs for Alligator Records. They won two awards in 2013; Blues Album of the Year and Contemporary Blues Album. "Playing with Michael was really an incredible ride"...."Our music took me where every player wants to go"...."Michael never told me what to play or ever said what not to play....it don't get any better than that". During his tenure with Burks, he represented the United States in Rudalstadt, Germany's "Magic Keys" World Festival playing Hammond B3 organ. He also appears on the debut and second CD released by Marqise Knox on APO Records. The second release, Here I AM, placed in the top ten songs on the B.B. King Radio Show.

Wayne's playing Hammond B3, Key B duo, and piano. His powerful poignant maturing soul-drenched vocals leave audiences wanting for more.

He was born on the Louisiana bayous, south of New Orleans, in the small town of Houma. His love of music starts with his mother, Gardeline "Meno". "She had an incredible ear and could play anything that she heard or imagined." It was an older sister, Dianna, who first put his hands on the keys. He grew up listening to the grooves and melodies that were coming out of New Orleans, a great melting pot of styles in the Creole tradition.

Currently, residing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he continues writing, collaborating, arranging, touring, and keeping the BLUES alive!

    Crystal Shawnda

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

    Blues/Rock/Country from Nashville.

In every industry you have your share of ups and downs, and in the music business this is no exception. Crystal Shawanda knows this first hand. But, a dream wouldn’t be a dream if you didn’t have to work hard to get there.
Crystal Shawanda was born on the Wikwemikong Native Reservation on Canada’s Manitoulin Island in Ontario. She grew up immersed in all styles of music, especially country, being the youngest of three siblings; music has always been a part of who Crystal is. At 12, she accompanied her truck-driver father on a long haul to the southern United States, and visited Nashville for the first time. At 13, she recorded her first album in Nashville, all of which were songs that she wrote. Over the next several years recorded 3 more independent albums, traveled back and forth to Nashville, honed her craft, and finally got a full –time gig at the famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Nashville’s famous downtown street, Broadway. There, she met her husband and lead guitarist, Dewayne Strobel, where they shared the stage for six years.
She began to work with producer Scott Hendricks (Faith Hill, Brooks and Dunn) and it was then that Nashville music-business legend Joe Galante signed Crystal to RCA Records/ Sony Music Nashville in 2007. “You Can Let Go” was the fastest rising single in Canadian BDS History and reached top 5 in the Canada and top 20 in the US. Her debut album “Dawn of a New Day” was released in 2008, was Billboard’s highest charting album by a Native American, and sold 400,000 copies that year. A CMT six-part documentary also aired in Canada called “Crystal: Living the Dream”, giving fans an inside look at Crystal’s life in Nashville.
In 2009, after five hit singles in Canada including the title track, “Try”, and “My Roots are Showing”, and a massive tour with Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley, Crystal was named the Canadian Country Music Association’s Female Artist of the Year, deservingly. Also that year, Crystal parted ways with RCA/Sony to explore other avenues. She stated, “Throughout my time with Sony, I learned so much and I will forever be grateful to Joe Galante for giving me the opportunity and freedom to figure out who I am.”
2010 shaped up to be another amazing year for Crystal, beginning with a Cross-Canadian tour with Reba McEntire, which she got to perform every night with the living legend for the duet “Does He Love You”. Crystal launched her record label New Sun Records, and released her 2 hit singles off of her forthcoming album, “Beautiful Day” and “Closer” in Canada. Crystal also appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
As she looks forward to the future, Crystal Shawanda is excited to continue to tour, and share the new songs, from her recently released album "Just Like You" in stores now,or you can order at www.crystalshawanda.co as well as iTunes.ca In this business you can let things get you down, but Crystal has always found a way to bounce back to what really matters. “I love to sing, and the music has always pulled me through"

Hector Anchondo with opening act Josh Decoster Band

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

    Blues from Omaha, Nebraska

Hector Anchondo doesn’t just play the blues— he lives and breathes the blues. At 16-years-old, the budding musician picked up his first guitar and never looked back. He began an instant love affair with the instrument, especially Fenders. Born in Omaha, but raised seven miles outside of Salem, Missouri, Anchondo was able to take advantage of the tranquil farm life and learn guitar at a steady pace. He was drawn to those artists who played Fender Stratocasters like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton, but also respected the country greats such as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr. As he got older, his propensity for music only intensified. After playing countless shows at family gatherings and hole-in-the-wall dive bars, Anchondo made the move back to Omaha, Nebraska in 2000. His first official recording, Rookies of the Year, was with his first band, Anchondo, and featured more energetic, Latin-influenced grooves. Recorded by the infamous A.J. Mogis of Presto! Studios (and later Saddle Creek Records), the album funded any touring for the next few years. With a home base in Omaha, it made traveling much easier.

n 2002, Anchondo and cousin George Keele released an acoustic rock album, Somewhere in Middle America, and followed up with 2004’s The Audience is Waiting and an EP, 2006’s North of the Border. After years of touring and living on Ramen Noodles, Kings of Nowhere was released in 2008. At the time, Anchondo had gained significant amounts of traction and even without promotion, would sell out shows. However, once the economy crashed, people suddenly stopped going to shows so around 2010, Anchondo made the brave decision to take the solo route. Only this time, his focus was on the blues, which didn’t happen by accident. Friend Tim Convy and owner of the St. Louis-based label, Red Bird Records, contacted Anchondo about recording a blues album. He jumped at the opportunity. In 2012, he released the Kickin’ Up Dust EP and hasn’t looked back. Sharing the stage with notable artists such as Mato Nanji of Indiginous, Magic Slim, Royal Southern Brotherhood, Hamilton Loomis, and Coco Montoya, and getting private guitar lessons from James Brown’s guitarist Damen Wood, gave Anchondo the confidence to pursue his dream. He’s currently writing material for his next album and plans on releasing an EP in 2014. With shows booked until the end of the year, Anchondo is on his way to becoming an established blues vet, and it won’t be long before he’s up there with his heroes.

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

    Blues and Rock from Fayetteville

The band’s leader is legendary guitar player Earl Cate, who was listed in Steve Cropper’s top ten guitar players of all time. Earl has been writing and performing music for five decades now.
He has a unique style of playing which sets him apart from the rest. His level of experience and
professionalism is unmatched. Earl has played and toured with The Band, Crosby Stills and Nash, Bo Diddley, Little Feat and many others. His bands have shared the stage with Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Boz Scaggs, Elvin Bishop, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and many other rock legends of our time.

Jason Davis, guitarist and vocalist has made his home in Northwest Arkansas over the past ten years or so, hailing from the Lincoln, Nebraska area where he cut his teeth in the Midwest blues scene. He toured 10 years with his trio “Baby Jason and the Spankers”. During that period, they played some of the top blues venues in the country, including Buddy Guy’s Legends, Antones, the Grand Emporium, the Zoo Bar and Blue on Grand.

Upon arriving in Arkansas Jason played with the esteemed Arkansas Tablerockers for seven years before joining up to help create Earl and Them. Over the years he has had the honor to play with the likes of Magic Slim, Sue Foley, James Harmans, Jimmy Thackery, Tab Benoit, and Indigenous. To date one of his highest personal achievement has been to play the South Loop River Blues Festival in Nebraska for seventeen consecutive years..

Drummer and vocalist for the group is Terry Cagle. Terry is from Springdale, Arkansas and still makes his home there. Terry got into the music business in 1966 when he was only 15 years old. He joined Earl and Ernie Cate when his uncle Levon Helm left the Cate’s Gang for Canada to join Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, and Rick Danko in what was to become the legendary rock group “The Band”. Levon had recommended his nephew for the job as a great young drummer.

Terry fondly says that his mother let him play gigs while still in high school because the Cate Brothers had a reputation as being clean cut and they did not drink and party like the other bands of the era. That began a long relationship with the Cate Brothers Band and now Earl and Them. Terry was the drummer and vocalist with the Cates in their heyday in the 1970’s and 80’s appearing on American Bandstand and Austin City Limits. They also toured with the Band for a couple of years in the early eighties. Earl reveals that there were times on the tour that Levon was unable to sing and Terry sang his parts and no one knew in the audience. His voice is similar to his famous uncle’s and many would say better.

Bass player John Davies is the newest addition to the band. John is one of those good ole south Arkansas boys that you can’t help but like. Raised in Camden, AR he grew up loving the blues. He played bass for the Cate Brothers band for ten years during the 1990’s and played on several of their albums including Radioland and the classic Cate Brothers Live CD. During the early 2000’s John played tour dates with notables Son Seals, Guitar Shorty, and Dr. Hector and the Groove Injectors. John was also the bass player for the Michael Burkes Band for several years and toured nationally and internationally with Michael. We are lucky and thankful to have John now with the Earl and Them band.

    Anthony Gomes 2

Anthony Gomes, #1 Billboard Blues Artist, is a triple threat force as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter.  Blues Music Magazine’s editor recently declared that, “Gomes’ formidable guitar chops and authentic singing place him in the forefront of modern blues.”  This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today.

Biscuit Miller & The Mix Featuring Rachelle Coba

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

    Blues from Chicago

    biscuit

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago by his Grandmother; he was given his childhood nickname, Biscuit, after always being in the kitchen and underfoot while she was trying to cook. Growing up at Grandma’s house also gave Biscuit his love and appreciation for music, as gospel and soul were played in the home on a regular basis.

While visiting his friend Datrick’s house one afternoon, Biscuit spotted a four string electric bass sitting in a corner collecting dust and decided to check it out. The bass belonged to Datrick’s older brother, Darnell, who taught him a couple of songs. Biscuit took to it like a fish in water, “It was easy to play and I fell in love with it immediately”. So at the tender age of eleven years old, Biscuit Miller was born into the “Blues”. It didn’t take long until he formed his first band, Clever, with Ivan Wallace, his childhood friend. They moved to Minneapolis in 1982 where Sonny Rogers taught him a lot about playing basic blues. During his time with Rogers, they recorded “They Call Me the Cat Daddy”, which won Rogers a Handy Award for Best New Artist. Unfortunately, Sonny passed away before he was able to accept the award. Biscuit then went on to play with other respected blues artists such as, Mojo Buford (formerly with Muddy Waters) and Lady Blue (backup vocalist for Ike and Tina Turner).

One day, Biscuit received a phone call requesting him to come back home to sub for Chicago’s own legendary Lonnie Brooks who needed a bass player for one night. That one night lasted for over ten years as Biscuit became the permanent bass player for the Lonnie Brooks Band. “The years I spent with Lonnie were invaluable to me as a musician. I learned so much about the music business and being on the road – we played some incredible gigs such as President Clinton’s inauguration and I met and performed with many of my own idols while traveling with Lonnie and the band. During the winter months, we didn’t tour as much, so I spent time sitting in with various musicians and in 2000 I formed Biscuit and the Mix to fill up some of the down-time”. During this time, he recorded a CD “Come Together”. One of the bands Biscuit frequently sat in with was the up and coming Anthony Gomes Band. During one of those sessions, he was asked to join the band full time and he decided to take Anthony up on his offer. During the five years with the Anthony Gomes Band, they released five CD’s, Unity, Sweet Stringin' Soul, Long Way Home, Music is the Medicine, and the latest, Live at the Triple Door.

A heavy touring schedule of over 250 gigs a year in the US and abroad have led to a dedicated fan base. In 2012 Biscuit’s fun and funky style of bass playing earned him the Blues Music Award for Bassist of the Year. He also took 2nd place in the bassist category in the Blues Matters International Writers Poll. Biscuit Miller and The Mix are once again on the road with his latest CD “BLUES WITH A SMILE” and ready to bring a smorgasbord of fun to your party. What’s better than a bowlful of Soulful, Funky Blues stew? A pipin’ hot Biscuit,of course!

Fronted by brothers Dick and Dave Pruitt on bass and electric guitars, with Michael Cherry on drums, the Bel Airs play a danceable mix with an authentic but eclectic bluesy-country-soul-and-rock-n-roll sound influenced by the likes of Wilson Picket, Slim Harpo, Howlin' Wolf and Johnny Cash.

Performing together for more than 20 years, the Pruitt brothers' harmony vocal style sets them apart in the contemporary music scene--leading one reviewer to refer to them as the "Everly Brothers of Blues". David's "big guitar" and Dick's howling vocals over soulful, right-on rhythm playing make this trio a powerhouse.

    Mulligan Brothers

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

    Blues from Portland

    Mulligan Bros

For three weeks in September, The Mulligan Brothers parked their white bus in front of Ice Cream Studios in Portland, Oregon to record their new album Via Portland. Each day they walked down the stairs and through heavy swinging doors into the basement studio filled with guitars, drums, instrument cases, and Christmas lights. They took their places behind microphones in the boiler room, between soundproof black quilts, or in the corner of the control room beneath antelope and elk heads hanging on the walls to record their songs of murder, loyalty, heartbreak, and misplaced dreams.

Each session began with two hours of testing microphones, and tuning and changing instruments as producer Steve Berlin and engineer Jeff Saltzman prepared for every note.  Berlin is the saxophone player for Los Lobos, but he has also been involved with Grammy-winning projects for Los Lobos, Buckwheat Zydeco, Ozomatli, John Lee Hooker and Los Super Seven.

“A friend gave me the Mulligan Brothers’ first CD and I told them to call me if they wanted my help with the next one,” says Berlin. “It was a slam dunk. The songs are great and the band is great. Ross' voice is a unique, magical instrument that can work for any age and any demographic. They also came in prepared with a firm handle on what they want. That spoiled me because a lot of my time with young bands is working on arranging and orchestration. These guys are amazing people and seem happy to be here and to have this chance.  I couldn't have scripted this any better.”

The Mulligan Brothers are: Ross Newell (lead vocals, guitar, and songwriting); Gram Rea (fiddle, mandolin, viola, harmonica and vocals); Ben Leininger (bass and vocals) and Greg DeLuca (drums and vocals). Via Portland is the second album for the band from Mobile and Baton Rouge that met playing in bars in Mobile and took a name that means second chances. Expectations are high for the follow-up to The Mulligan Brothers, their popular debut album released in June 2013 that created passionate fans across the country and was in the Top Ten of CD Sales at the 2014 New Orleans Jazz Fest.

    Jimmy Thackery

Early Show! Show starts at 6:30

    Blues from Pittsburgh, PA.

Whether Jimmy Thackery headlines a festival in South Dakota or jams for hours in one of numerous blues bars that dot the musical landscape, he'll always unleash an intense volley of rockin' blues guitar guaranteed to leave crowds emotionally spent. His double edged guitar dynamics allow him to fire off tracer missiles, bend a note so it will fit under a limbo bar, run off dive bomber riffs, and find space within the trembling of one stinging note. "I put all my senses on hold and find the zone and follow what's inside. There's an electricity from your mind to your heart to your fingers. You just try and remember to breathe."

He's one of the few blues guitarists who learned first hand from the masters of the blues, not off a blues record or DVD. Though most associate Jimmy with his 15 years as the co-founder of the Nighthawks, he ended his time with them in 1987. Since then, Jimmy has been on the road as a solo musician for 15 years doing nearly 300 shows a year proving each night that he is still the guitar powerhouse in the blues.

Thackery has lived the life of a true road warrior; he's absorbed the artistic lessons of life and filtered them into his guitar playing and song writing. To get where he is today, Jimmy has journeyed a highway of life filled with a series of twists and turns. He met all the right people and they have had a permanent influence on him.

From May of 2013 to May of 2014, The Schwag was primarily on hiatus, as lead singer Jimmy Tebeau served time in federal prison in Yankton, South Dakota for a music/drug related crime. The Schwag band is now stronger than ever on a perpetual tour performing a different show every night of a high energy organic interpretation of the Grateful Dead.

Dennis Grueling and The Jewel Tones featuring Dennis Grueling

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

Blues Swing and R&B from New Jersey

Having spent time in New Orleans during 1992-3, Dennis came back home to the Garden State of NJ and quickly gained a reputation as a young rising star on the local scene, working in a couple different local blues bands. In addition to studying the classic harmonica & Chicago Blues records (Little Walter, Big Walter, James Cotton, Muddy Waters, etc…), Dennis also “cut his teeth” on some classic blues/R&B/swing saxophone records from the likes of Illinois Jacquet, Willis Jackson, Red Prysock, and Gene Ammons. In 1998 he started to form his own local “all-star” band (including saxophonist Joel Frahm). Ever since his self-titled debut with that band (Dennis Gruenling & Jump Time!) hit the streets in 1999, Dennis has pulled in countless fans and numerous accolades from critics & musicians around the world for his swinging, highly original harmonica sound and style. Taking equal parts from the harmonica and swing/saxophone traditions and styles, Dennis has pushed the boundaries further for the sound of blues harmonica, while in the meantime pioneering a whole new sound and direction for the harmonica.

    Blues from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mitchhart’s musical journey began in his native Cincinnati, Ohio, in a home where jazz guitar masters like Wes Montgomery and Johnny Smith were played on the stereo. Therefore it was natural that he gravitated to the six-string. As a child he saw the outrageous Little Richard on a TV show and was captivated by his showmanship. Little Richard looked and acted differently than anybody he had ever been exposed to. Today, Mitchhart has created his own brand of showmanship that brings audiences back again and again.

    Paul Thorn

    Show starts @ 6

    Americana from Tupelo, Mississippi

    Paul Thorn

Paul Thorn's new album Too Blessed To Be Stressed stakes out new territory for the popular roots-rock songwriter and performer. "In the past, I've told stories that were mostly inspired by my own life," the former prizefighter and literal son of a preacher man offers. "This time, I've written 10 songs that express more universal truths, and I've done it with a purpose: to make people feel good."

Which explains numbers like the acoustic-electric charmer Don't Let Nobody Rob You Of Your Joy, where Thorn's warm peaches-and-molasses singing dispenses advice on avoiding the pitfalls of life. The title track borrows its tag from a familiar saying among the members of the African-American Baptist churches Thorn frequented in his childhood. "I'd ask, 'How you doin', sister?' And what I'd often hear back was, 'I'm too blessed to be stressed.' " In the hands of Thorn and his faithful band, who've been together 20 years, the tune applies its own funky balm, interlacing a percolating drum and keyboard rhythm with the slinky guitar lines beneath his playful banter.

    Hector Anchondo & KALO

    Doors open @ 6:30 & Show starts @ 8

    Blues from Omaha, Nebraska.

    Doors open @6:30 p.m., show starts @8:00p.m.

Hadden SayersFor most musicians, "the road" is a place of either hedonism or heartache. Contrasts on the far ends of a far too common cliché. But for Soul-Blues Guitar Slinger Hadden Sayers, the road is a comfortable buzz of underground fans and passionate shows. In 2011, Sayers released the acclaimed Hard Dollar, featuring the single "Back to the Blues," which was nominated for the Song of the Year Award at the 33rd Annual Blues Music Awards. The album launched him back onto stages around the country. More than 100 gigs followed, from New York City to Mammoth Lakes, CA.

"Black Friday" with The Incredible Flying Solo Hogs

    Doors open @6:30 p.m., show starts @8:00p.m.

Solo HogsThe Solohogs began playing in 1994 in Topeka. Founding members Michael Stratton (guitar) and Lew Spring (bass) began as an acoustic duo inspired by the likes of Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal. 1995 saw Les Goering (harmonica, guitar) and Mark Paquette (drums) join the band. They ramped up the electric gear and with the line-up complete they began playing regularly in the Midwest and built a following due to there brand of energetic blues and rock with strong harmony vocals. They continued as weekend warriors for twelve years and then split to pursue other projects but continued to re-unite for "special" shows. 20 years later the band is fully re-united and the energy is at its highest level ever! "When Pigs Fly" was recorded live at TPAC in 2001 and is the only recording to date but more projects are in the works. "We still get out the hollow bodies and return to our roots at every show." Come early, stay late, a great time is guaranteed!
