    The Cate Brothers

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8pm

WebsiteCateBrothersArkansas-based Earl and Ernie Cate were prolific songwriters and singers who blended the blues with elements of rock & roll, country and rockabilly. Pianist/vocalist Ernie and guitarist/vocalist Earl signed to Asylum Records in 1975; their self-titled debut, issued shortly after, included appearances by Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Cropper, former Band drummer Levon Helm, and former Eagle and Poco member Timothy B. Schmidt. They followed up their debut in 1976 with In One Eye and Out the Other, trailed in 1977 by The Cate Brothers Band. Spurred by the success of the single "Union Man," 1979's Fire on the Tracks reached number 24 on the album rock charts in 1976.

Despite a dearth of recordings through the 1980s, the band remained a popular touring act in Tennessee, Arkansas and other strongholds of country rock and blues around the South. In the early '80s, Earl and Ernie joined Helm and others to form a reconstructed version of the Band, which by that point had lost guitarist Robbie Robertson; aside from touring with Helm, they also collaborated with blues singer Maria Muldaur. The Cate Brothers continued recording into the 1990s; in 1995, they issued Radioland, a unique hybrid of pop-oriented blues-rock, Stax-era soul-blues and country-rock on which they were joined by former John Mayall blues guitar phenom Coco Montoya. A new album, Play by the Rules, was released in 2004. ~ Richard Skelly, Rovi

    Toronzo Cannon

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8pm

WebsiteToronzoCannonThroughout the history of Chicago blues, the intensely competitive local club scene has served as a proving ground, where only the best musicians rise to the top. Iconic blues artists from Muddy Waters to Howlin’ Wolf to Koko Taylor to Hound Dog Taylor to Luther Allison all paid their dues in the Chicago blues bars before making their mark on the world. The same holds true today, as newcomers look to living legends like Buddy Guy, Eddy Clearwater and Lil’ Ed Williams for inspiration in taking their music from Chicago to fans across the globe. Now, Chicago-born-and-raised blues guitarist /vocalist/ songwriter Toronzo Cannon is ready to write his own story as he claims his place as one of the city’s most popular and innovative blues.

    Kaopectones

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8pm

WebsiteKaopectonesThe Kaopectones are Kansas City's most unique "Rock" musical offering. Four veteran players reproducing timeless music from 4 decades of Rock. And all without the use of prerecorded or sequenced backing tracks, Auto-Tune, or other gadgets and tricks designed to fool the listener. Real music played by real people. The way it is supposed to be.

Make no mistake, The Kaopectones are, first and foremost, a "Rock" band. They chose the "Rock" designation, as it encompasses much more than the traditional sub genre labels like "Rock and Roll", "Classsic Rock", "Pop Rock" or "Progressive Rock". The Kaopectones run the entire spectrum, stylistically, while never forgetting that the "Rock" attitude and approach are what drives all of the music they play. Loud and proud, with the edge and drive necessary to put the music across to the listener in the manner envisioned by the original artists.

WebsiteSlamAllenSlam Allen has been entertaining with his unique blend of soul and blues for over twenty years. Playing the famous Chitlin' Circuit as well as performing around the world, Allen's music and enthusiasm has been shared with thousands of people. For the past five years he has played an important role in the legendary James Cotton Band. "It's one of the highlights and privileges of my life to play with Cotton" says Allen, "He is one of the last living legends, and there's so much history there. Cotton was directly connected to Muddy Waters -- who was a major factor in the blues world as well as being one of my all time favorites. Playing with Cotton is such a great experience for me and there are things you can learn from him that you can't learn from any school. It's a great honor." Music is in Allen's blood -- he got his start from his father and uncles who were known as the Allen Brothers Band. Allen carries on the family legacy wherever he goes. His music runs deep. "When I play," says Allen, "People who may have never heard of me leave the show with a feeling like that we're old friends or family." From B.B. King to Otis Redding. Slam has a way of making you feel the Soul of the Music. Sometime you cannot tell if he is doing one of his oringinals or a old blues or soul cover cause he makes all the music his own.

Founding members Michael Stratton (guitar) and Lew Spring (bass) began as an acoustic duo inspired by the likes of Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal. 1995 saw Les Goering (harmonica, guitar) and Mark Paquette (drums) join the band. They ramped up the electric gear and with the line-up complete they began playing regularly in the Midwest and built a following due to there brand of energetic blues and rock with strong harmony vocals. They continued as weekend warriors for twelve years and then split to pursue other projects but continued to re-unite for "special" shows. 20 years later the band is fully re-united and the energy is at its highest level ever! "When Pigs Fly" was recorded live at TPAC in 2001 and is the only recording to date but more projects are in the works. "We still get out the hollow bodies and return to our roots at every show." Jeremiah Johnson's superior song writing; backed up by his incredibly sexy voice, and fantastic fret work, demonstrate his three dimensional ability to provide music that virtually anyone can appreciate young or old Rocker Blues Man Jazz Man or Country Sh*t kicker, JJ Grinds out a down Home feel good rhythm that touches Home. JJ works hard every day. He Grinds out an "Honest Forty" for the Man, and still finds time to continuously produce a fantastic resume of titles, and play gigs throughout the week. His music is capable of topping the charts... Jeremiah is a true Rock'n Blues & Roots Man of the highest order. The only thing better than having The Jeremiah Johnson Band spilling out of your speakers, is going out and watching these guys LIVE.
    ~Bob Molinary, St. Charles, MO

Born and grown in St. Louis, Jeremiah spent 10 years seasoning his style on the Gulf Coast of Texas and then came home to lay down some dirty, rockin' blues. Now 5 albums into his music career, he has created a sound all his own. Nobody does blues like the JJB because it's not just blues. There is no genre for this music, you just have to hear it and feel it to understand.

Honors and achievements include being first place finalist of the Houston, Texas Regional Blues Challenge sponsored by The Houston Blues Society in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2011, the were the proud winners of the St. Louis Blues Society IBC Challenge and went on to the semi finals to represent St. Louis in Memphis, Tennessee. Sirius XM's B.B. Kings Bluesville picked up JJB in 2012 where they can still be heard nationwide, as well as on Touch Tunes Jukeboxes in your local bars and clubs and on radio stations across the country, including our very own KDHX 88.1 FM in St. Louis.

There are currently two versions of this band available, a power TRIO and a five piece with sax and trumpet.
The Jeremiah Johnson Trio is a sexy, chill version of the JJB. This version is more song orientated and of course more guitar driven. Tons of tone, bare to the bone!

Then there is Jeremiah Johnson with The Sliders. This is the trio with Jim Rosse on trumpet and Stuart Williams on sax, harmonica and flute. This is a power packed wall of sound that brings Jeremiahs original music to unexpected places. Providing a taste of everything from Honky Tonkin harmonica, old school blues shout choruses, amazing horn solos and even some flute. It is a unique show to say the least.

    Red Elvises

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8pm

red elviIgor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock'n'roll was illegal. A rebellious streak, however, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible, Igor left Russia for America with his Folk'n'Roll" band Limpopo and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon's Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock'n'roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Hector Anchondo

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8pm

HAB-Web-OutsideHector Anchondo doesn’t just play the blues— he lives and breathes the blues. At 16-years-old, the budding musician picked up his first guitar and never looked back. He began an instant love affair with the instrument, especially Fenders. Born in Omaha, but raised seven miles outside of Salem, Missouri, Anchondo was able to take advantage of the tranquil farm life and learn guitar at a steady pace. He was drawn to those artists who played Fender Stratocasters like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton, but also respected the country greats such as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr. As he got older, his propensity for music only intensified. After playing countless shows at family gatherings and hole-in-the-wall dive bars, Anchondo made the move back to Omaha, Nebraska in 2000. His first official recording, Rookies of the Year, was with his first band, Anchondo, and featured more energetic, Latin-influenced grooves. Recorded by the infamous A.J. Mogis of Presto! Studios (and later Saddle Creek Records), the album funded any touring for the next few years. With a home base in Omaha, it made traveling much easier.

“At the time there was really huge radio support, area wide album distribution, and a huge local music support that I’ve never come across in any other city I’ve ever traveled to,” Anchondo recalls. “Omaha is still a great city to get your legs, but 10 years ago it was unmatched. Omaha has played a huge roll in propelling me forward and I owe a lot to this city.”

A few artists Hector has had the privilege of performing with:
Styx, CCR, Johnny Winter, Marshal Tucker Band, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Bernard Allison, Magic Slim, John Nemeth, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Indigenous, Big & Rich, Fishbone, Devon Allman,
Mike Zito, Cyril Neville, Shawn Holt & The Tear Drops, Samantha Fish, Hamilton Loomis, Mr. Sipp, and many more.

    Highlights:

-Finilist in the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN (Top 8 Worldwide)
-Semifinilist in the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN
-Winner of the 2014 “Best Blues Band of the Year” award by the OEA’s
-Winner of the 2013 “Best Blues Band of the Year” award by the OEA’s
-Winner of the 2014 Nebraska State Blues Challenge

Boise, Idaho is hardly the place anyone would conjure up as a hotbed of soul music. But for John Boise, Idaho is hardly the place anyone would conjure up as a hotbed of soul music.

But for John Németh, it’s where his love for the genre began—and the starting point for a journey that’s taken him from his first gigs fronting a teenaged band to five Blues Music Award nominations in 2013 alone.

It’s where this preternaturally talented son of a Hungarian immigrant gained his early chops on the harmonica, building on the style of rootsy heroes like Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson. Németh’s first paid performance came in 1991, when he was hired to perform drinking songs for a pinochle luncheon held by the Catholic Daughters of America before setting his sights on the Boise club scene, where, for nearly a decade, he played seven nights a week at local pubs, taverns, joints, and parties. John Németh has been on top of the music scene ever since.

    Matthew Curry

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8:00pm

EventMatthewCurryAs much as Matthew Curry is invested in summoning the spirit of the blues — a commitment that’s in full display on the pair of smokin’ hot albums he’s released to date, 2011’s barn-burning If I Don’t Got You and 2013’s hard-charging testifier Electric Religion — the 19-year-old guitar slinger and soulful singer from Bloomington, Illinois likes to take a much broader view of his style. “If somebody came up and asked me what I would call my music, I don’t think I would say ‘the blues,’” he admits. “And I don’t think I would say ‘rock and roll,’ either. I would actually say, ‘good music.’ Blues is my first love, but I also love ’60s rock like Cream, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. I’m also into things like Southern rock, Chet Atkins, and Roy Clark. All of those artists are complete musicians. They write great songs, and they sing great too. They’re just incredible.”

Curry’s roots certainly run muddy-waters deep, something that’s not been lost on the guitar legends he’s had the honor of sharing the stage with over the past few years. “Matthew Curry is a phenomenal guitar player,” marvels Peter Frampton. “A highlight from my tour last year was jamming with him. He’s the next guitar hero!” Echoing that sentiment is Steve Miller, whom Curry both opened for and joined onstage during an exhilarating nine-date run in Canada in 2014 — and will again be his opening act for a slew of dates starting in May. Miller declares that Curry is a “wonderful guitar player [and] great songwriter in the Stevie Ray Vaughan area of virtuosity and originality.” Besides continuing on with the Steve Miller Band, Curry will also be opening for The Doobie Brothers and Don Felder. “I’m absolutely thrilled,” Curry says of supporting these and other heavy hitters. “We have so much fun out there and I really, really enjoy it. I grew up listening to those guys, so to be out on the road with people like Don Felder, The Doobie Brothers, and the Steve Miller Band is quite an honor.”

EventKrisLagerBandFor well over a decade The Kris Lager Band has been a vehicle for Kris Lagers unique brand of original music. Self described as Heavy Soul & Boogie Trance KLB doesn't fall neatly into any one category or genre. The best way to categorize them would be Feel Good Music because as soon as it hits you, you just feel good! Whether it is a funky soulful number, a groovy beat, a boogie guitar driven riff, or a tug on your heart strings ballad. A KLB song or show has that ability to just lift you up and make you feel good EVERYTIME!!

A KLB show is a legitimate Rock n Roll Revival and an Electric Church. The energy this band throws out from the drop of the first note creates a feel good dancing, singing, and hollering great time. One that is truly contagious and impossible to sit still through. Kris Lager is one of the most dynamic front men you'll ever witness with an unrivaled level of intensity and showmanship. With Paul Bell and Johnny Castle in the band for nearly a decade, and founding father Mark Wenner the remaining original, this team outshines all previous incarnations.

The Nighthawks was an idea in Mark Wenner's brain long before he was able to implement it. The musical product of pre-1958 radio in Washington, D.C., he did not know there were rules against mixing blues, R&B, honky-tonk country, doo-wop, gospel and rockabilly into one delicious stew. This unique sound along with decades of experience make The Night Hawks a band that you dont want to miss.

    JJ Thames

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8:00pm

eventJJthamesMixing R&B, funk, Motown, and soul with strong blues and gospel vocals, and tossing in ska and reggae rhythms for occasional seasoning, JJ Thames has a powerful stage presence, and more than enough talent to back it up as a songwriter and as a performer. Her story reads like a classic Hollywood biopic, full of early joys, tragic losses, and a seemingly predestined turn to music as a career. Thames (pronounced "Timms") was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she showed musical ability early in childhood, and with her parents' blue-collar support, grew up singing and studying music, specifically piano and classical and jazz vocal technique. She first took the stage and began performing when she was nine, and by the time she was 17, Thames had developed into a blues shouter and prodigy who could command and set fire to any stage she took in true chanteuse fashion. Then life intervened. At 17, she gave birth to the first of her three sons, and moved with him to Mississippi to study business and marketing at Mississippi College. Settling in Jackson, Thames worked on the regional club circuit with stars like Marvin Sease and others, holding her own and learning how to build and expand an audience. In 2004 she gave birth to her second son, who tragically died from a rare strain of lymphoma just days from his second birthday. This huge emotional blow set the compass pointing back north, and Thames returned to Detroit. Singing was about the only thing that lifted her out of her despair, and she became determined to follow her dream of being a professional performer and musician. Thames landed a headlining gig at Lola's, a local nightclub, and played there every Friday night for a year-and-a-half, honing her stage presence while building an audience and fan base. Encouraged, in 2008 she moved to New York City, hoping to repeat her success. New York can humble anybody, and she ended up singing in the subway for change and tips. Street performance, though, also taught her how to hold an audience with just her voice, and the value of musical diversity. She learned how to take various alternative rock songs and make them her own, expanding her options on-stage. But this was New York, and she had, with the birth of her third son in 2010, two young children to take care of, so music had to take a back seat again. Thames worked for a time as an assistant manager at a restaurant, and began juggling multiple jobs, gradually working performing back into her schedule. In 2012, unable to pay even the weekly rent in an extended-stay hotel, Thames and her two sons ended up in a homeless shelter for a month. While there, Thames wrote what would become her early signature song, "Tell You What I Know." Her life seemed to be at its bottom rung, but along the way she had shared stages with Bobby "Blue" Bland, Peggy Scott Adams, Willie Clayton, Denise LaSalle, and others, and had branched out to sing background vocals for ska, reggae and reggae rock bands Outlaw Nation, Fishbone, Israel Vibrations, Bad Brains and others, developing a fully formed, diverse and powerful stage presence. Meanwhile, though, she was in a homeless shelter. Family and friends stepped in, and Thames and her two boys moved once again to Mississippi, where her luck finally changed. Signing with Dechamp Records in 2013, she recorded a debut album with producers Grady Champion and Carole DeAngelis. The completed Tell You What I Know album was released to early critical acclaim in the spring of 2014.

    Hector Anchondo

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8:00pm

eventHectorHector Anchondo doesnt just play the blues he lives and breathes the blues.

    Kaopectones

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8:00pm
eventKaopectonesThe Kaopectones are Kansas City's most unique "Rock" musical offering.

    Biscuit Miller & The Mix

    Doors open @ 6:30 show begins @ 8:00pm

EventBiscuitMillerWishbone is the eagerly awaited 3rd studio recording of 2012 Blues Music Award Winner for Bassist of the Year, Biscuit Miller. The title track was inspired by Biscuits two grandsons Jordan and Josh who were excited about making a wish when they got their hands on the turkey wishbone during Thanksgiving dinner. Their excitement sparked an idea in Biscuits ever creative mind, and he literally began singing and writing the song on the spot! He then jammed with his grandsons in his music room after dinner. That special day with his family and the birth of a song were all the motivation Biscuit needed to get back into the studio to begin working on Wishbone.

Biscuit and his band, The Mix, have been touring extensively ever since he won his first BMA in 2012, and had to squeeze in their recording sessions during breaks in the tour. Biscuit is known for his high energy shows and blazing million dollar smile.
