Blues/Jazz/Acoustic from Boca Raton, FloridaJP Soars & the Red Hots - $5J.P. Soars was a metal guitarist when he became captivated by the blues and the music of Django Reinhardt. He was playing with metal bands but listening to the blues and gypsy jazz, finally focusing on blues. J.P. Soars $ the Red Hots won the South Florida Blues Society's IBC and headed to Memphis winning the 2009 Challenge earning the title of best unsigned blues act in the world. I got to see them win in Memphis and asked them to come visit Bo's, two years ago. They're finally coming through Kansas and I know our audience will love them.
Friday, September 10th:
Blues/Rock/Funk from Apple Valley, MinnesotaBernard Allison - $15 in advance, $18 at the doorBernard Allison started touring straight out of high school earning a pretty serious gig with Koko Taylor. We love Bernard, and I have a big picture of him, ready to sign and grace our walls. I can't wait.
Saturday, September 11th:
Blues from MemphisMemphis Blue & the Groove - $7![]()
Says Clyde "Memphis Blue" Dotson, "I think the words of that old O'Jays tune describe me best; 'I love music, any kind of music, I love music, just as long as it's groovin'.' But music is like a relationship, you always remember your first love, and the blues is my first love. My nickname was given to me by Nashville blues legend Johnny Jones and every time I pick up my guitar I try to honor that moniker, because a lot of great music came out of Memphis. Growing up next door to Stax records I heard it all, and I play it all. So let me introduce you to my first girlfriend, the blues, and her beautiful sisters jazz, r&b, soul, and funk.
Friday, September 17th:
Blues/Soul/R&B from ChicagoJoe Moss Band - $5Joe Moss represents the future of the blues. Not just a imitator of the music's glorious past, he strives to find his own sound and material. His band features some of Chicago's finest blues musicians and Joe himself is a consistent and entertaining performer. Joe has a new CD which out we'll be featuring.
Saturday, Sept 18th:
Blues/Rock/Roots Music from ArkansasJimmy Thackery - $15 in advance, $18 at the doorIn my book Jimmy is the king. I know I have told this story every time Jimmy comes to town but without Jimmy's encouragement of "Suki just do it," I would not be writing this today and telling you how great an artist he is as well as a person. He's helped many by example with his wizardry on the guitar, love for music and talent that has shown through the years. Through Jimmy coming to Topeka, came Tab Benoit and The Cate Brothers, just to name a few. He's my inspiration to help keep blues alive in Topeka.
Friday & Saturday, September 24th & 25th:
Cate Brothers Music! (from Arkansas)The Cate Brothers - $15 in advance, $18 at the doorPeople ask all the time about how I describe The Cate Brothers' music. I can't. It's just their music and people all over the world love them. Our friends from England are making the trip once more, to spend the weekend in Topeka to see the Cates. Their first trip the U.S. was to see the Cate Brothers in Topeka. That's the kind of drawing power they have.
